The Cold War spanned across five decades, it spread like wildfire to all corners of the World, and it indoctrinated multiple generations in the new Cold War culture of the atomic age. This new culture was defined by growing fears of political ideology, nuclear holocaust, and preservation of a balance of power between the communist nations of the world and those that supported liberty and capitalism.
Through the creation of this website, high school aged students interested in American History can explore a sampling of documents related to the fears experienced by citizens and policy makers alike that lead to the tenuous balance of power that kept the World from experiencing the answer of the question posed byWilliam Faulkner during his 1950 Nobel Prize acceptance speech, "When will I blow up?"
